OpenData4InfMon: Monitoring with GNSS sensors and open data

Investigations into the suitability of a data fusion of data from open data sources (GNSS and SAR data as well as building and traffic models, in particular from SAPOS, BKG and Copernicus programme) - Project acronym: OpenData4InfMon

Ageing, material fatigue and slow, climate-induced ground movements damage bridge structures and other important infrastructure. Monitoring these deformations is currently very cost-intensive and in most cases only comes into play when significant damage has already occurred.

The OpenData4InfMon project is therefore developing and evaluating cost-efficient analysis methods that are widely and easily available. Open data sources are to be combined with local GNSS sensors for monitoring purposes.

The first practical test of these methods is to take place on a structure at the waterway junction in Minden, where significant deformations occur repeatedly throughout the year. The results will be compared with those of classic deformation analyses.

The OpenData4InfMon project is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) with a total of around 200,000 euros as part of the mFUND innovation initiative.

The project consortium is made up of the companies ALLSAT GmbH and Geo++ GmbH as well as Leibniz Universität Hannover (Geodetic Institute) and Clausthal University of Technology (Institute of Geo-Engineering).

The project is technically supported by the Bundesanstalt für Gewässerkunde (BfG), the Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt Mittellandkanal / Elbe-Seitenkanal (WSA Minden), the Deutsche Zentrum für Schienenverkehrsforschung (DZSF) at the Federal Railway Authority and the Office for Geoinformation, Vermessung und Kataster of the City of Essen.

As part of the mFUND innovation initiative, the BMDV has been funding data-based research and development projects for the digital and connected mobility of the future since 2016.
